Ian Barker, New Forest National Park Ecologist said: 'We checked out Matley and Denny Wood last night for bats - where we'll be going on the walk tomorrow night (Friday).
'We had good views of a noctule feeding before it was dark and also picked up common pipistrelle. Also a possible sighting of brown long-eared bat (they are difficult to pick up on a bat detector and are sometimes referred to as the ‘whispering bat’).
'There were also lots of midges, so for those booked on the walk - it's best to bring the insect repellent!'
